about

Deep from the archive - the first and only release by the Steve Marquette Quintet! Originally a Chicago based project, "I Knew It Then" (2013) features a New Orleans band (assembled by Jeff Albert and featuring Brad Walker, Jesse Morrow and Marcello Benetti) that became the working version of the group for two years. While the compositions are deeply indebted to Hal Russell and the vibrant moment in Chicago's creative music community Marquette developed in between 2006-2012, the New Orleans musicians bring their cities' improvisation traditions to the fore through their own singular voices. An integral step on the road to the inter-disciplinary collaborations of the Instigation Festival.

Steve Marquette Chicago, Illinois

Using both acoustic and electric guitars, Marquette's solo music explores the intersections between free improvisation, folk traditions and the guitar as "sound box".
